New Delhi, September 16
The Shiromani Akali Dal leaders will on Friday hold a protest march under the banner of “Black Friday” to mark the first anniversary of the enactment of the three farm laws that have agitated farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh ever since, spawning a massive movement on the issue.
Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal will lead the protest from Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib to Parliament Building to mark the completion of one year of protests by SAD against three anti-farm laws.
September 17 last year saw the three controversial bills being passed by the Lok Sabha and Harsimrat Badal resigning from the union cabinet and distancing from historical ally, the BJP.
The three laws — Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020; and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 — triggered a prolonged farmers protest with farmers staging a sit in on the borders of Delhi.
