Week after incident 12 policemen named in woman atop jeep case

Amritsar, October 4: A week after the incident in which a woman, Jaswinder Kaur of Shehzada village, sustained injuries after falling from the roof of a police jeep here, the police have named the members of the Crime Branch team in the cross-case registered against them.

The police had already registered a cross-case under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC against unknown policemen. Now, on the statement of the victim the police have named the accused. The police also added Section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the IPC against the policemen after her medical examination and X-ray report.

The Amritsar (Rural) police have booked 12 policemen, including two inspectors, in this regard. Those booked include Inspector Kulwinder Singh, Inspector Davinder Singh, ASI Manohar Lal, ASI Sukhdeep Singh, ASI Narain Singh, Head Constables Balwinder Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Daljit Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Constables Tajinder Singh, Avtar Singh and Prabhjot Singh. Besides, the police have also booked Nirmal Singh and Gurpreet Singh with whom the victim’s family have an old dispute.

Parampal Singh, SSP. Amritsar (Rural), confirmed that a case was registered. He said the Crime Branch police team was asked to appear before the special investigating team formed for probing the incident and record their statements. However, they gave in writing that they would appear later on. Tomorrow they would be appearing before the Women Commission in Chandigarh.
