1987-batch IPS officer VK Bhawra may be next Punjab Police chief

Date:

Chandigarh, January 6

The Punjab Government is likely to appoint 1987-batch IPS officer VK Bhawra as the new Punjab DGP late Thursday evening.

Bhawra will replace Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, who is caught in the centre of a major controversy over Prime Minister’s “security breach” during his visit to Ferozepore on Wednesday.

Chattopadhyaya’s removal was on the cards ever since his name was not included in the panel of three officers shortlisted for the post.

A meeting between Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Chief Secretary Anirudh Tiwari and other senior officials is under way to finalise the name.

The meeting will also discuss state government’s response to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs missive on Prime Minister’s security breach.
