Chandigarh, March 8: Giving the selection of Tarn Taran district for facilitation by the Centre on the third anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme as an example of good work, Minister for Social Security and Women and Child Development Razia Sultana, on the eve of the International Women Day today said work under the scheme had been extended to 19 other districts in the state.
She said it was not a mere coincidence that wrestler Navjot Kaur, who had recently bagged a gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship, hailed from Tarn Taran district. It was the manifestation of the empowerment of womanhood in the district.
Tarn Taran district has also recorded a laudable improvement in the sex ratio at birth, the minister said.
In the first phase, 11 districts — Amritsar, Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Muktsar, Patiala, Sangrur, SAS Nagar and Tarn Taran —were covered.In the second phase, Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Moga, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar and SBS Nagar have been included.
