2015 Kotkapura violence: Captain government failed in putting up the case in proper manner, appealing it further: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, April 10, 2021

Reacting to the Punjab and Haryana High Court decision of quashing the probe reports submitted by Punjab Police in two FIRs registered in connection with 2015 Kotkapura violence and asking the Punjab government to constitute a fresh special investigating team (SIT), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and MP Bhagwant Mann said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had failed in putting up the case in proper manner and no upholding and appealing it further. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, Mann said that the Captain government had not taken up the case well with its advocate general Atul Nanda, once again failing in presenting a case for the state.

“Captain government’s advocate general, who has a team of 150 advocates has proved to be the most failed AG ever as it could not even manage to win a single case for Punjab,” he added. Mann said that by not getting a better advocate in such a big case was a well planned conspiracy of the Captain government to let down the probe reports. Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, he said that in the case related to appointment of Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta, in which petitions were moved by senior IPS officers including Siddharth Chattopadhyaya; Captain Amarinder Singh had then brought P. Chidambaram as their advocate. “Also in the Ansari case, the Captain government has brought many senior and expensive advocates. If Chidambaram and other senior advocates can be brought by the Captain government in other cases, then why can’t he bring these advocates in such a big and important case,” said Mann.

Lashing out at Captain Amarinder Singh, Mann said that when Captain Amarinder came to power, he had stated that he would give justice to the victims of the incident, but after so many years, still justice has not been served. He said that multiple attempts were made to derail the investigation which point to the fact that Captain Amarinder was trying to save the people involved in the sacrilege. Mann said that instead of putting up the case in a better way, Captain Amarinder Singh had let the case go down and also the SIT probe reports. “Parkash Singh Badal had also taken the cases back from Captain Amarinder and now Captain is paying that debt with interest. Both Captain and Badals are working in collusion,” he added. The AAP leader further said that the SIT probe reports had somewhere been pointing towards Sukhbir Badal.

“Badals are being exposed through the SIT probe reports, their misdeeds are coming to light,” he said. Mann said that if the SIT had done its full investigation with probe reports, then why justice is not being provided by the Captain government in the case. Questioning Captain Amarinder Singh, he said that why the Captain-led Congress government had not appealed further in the High Court to provide justice in the case. “This has exposed the real face of Captain Amarinder Singh and his double-standards. If the report does not come as per your own wish, then keep getting the reports cancelled. This is what Captain is doing,” he said.

Mann said that Captain Amarinder Singh has failed in upholding the probe reports of the state police and further appealing in the matter. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party demands the Captain government to appeal further in the matter and provide justice to Sikhs in the case. “After formation of the AAP government, all the cases would be re-investigated and justice would be served to the people of Punjab,” he added.
