24-year-old youth arrested for posing as doctor at PGI

Chandigarh, September 10: A 24-year-old youth has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for impersonating as a doctor at the PGI. The police are interrogating the accused from whom a stamp and a stethoscope were recovered.

According to the police, the accused, Sumit Kumar, is a native of Shimla and stays at Kajheri in Sector 52. He was caught by Swaran Singh, a security guard at the PGI.

The police said the security guard noticed the accused impersonating as a doctor on the third floor of the Medical OPD on September 8.

The security guard got suspicious and asked the accused to show his identity card, which the accused failed to furnish. The PGI authorities then informed the police about the incident.

The accused was arrested and a case under Sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 427 (making or possessing counterfeit seal) of the IPC registered against him at the Sector 11 police station.

The police said the accused was carrying a bag that had a stamp and a stethoscope. The accused is a Class XII passout and claimed that he was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), a medical entrance exam.
