Jalandhar, March 1: Twenty-nine colleges, currently affiliated with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, have given their consent for getting re-affiliated to the IK Gujral Punjab Technical University at Kapurthala.
Among the 29 colleges that have sought re-affiliation with the IKGPTU are two government colleges, including Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Ferozepur. The colleges have given the consent after holding their board of governor meetings. It, however, is now learnt that government colleges may not be allowed to switch over.
The chairmen of various private colleges, including Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, run by SGPC in Fatehgarh Sahib; BIS College of Engineering and Technology, Moga; Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, Muktsar; Continent Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sirhind; Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur; Adesh Institute of Engineering and Technology, Faridkot; Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Institute, Malout; and Aryans College of Engineering, Rajpura, too, have submitted their choice in writing.
Giving reasons for the changeover, Anshu Kataria, President, Punjab Unaided Colleges Association, and chairman of Aryans group, said, “We have high regards for the top management of the MRSPTU, Bathinda. Since the IKGPTU, Jalandhar, is around 20 years old, we chose to go with it. Another good development is that IKGPTU has got a Vice Chancellor after a gap of three years, which we expect will give it a strong leadership.”
