Srinagar, May 26: Four militants were killed in a gunfight with the Army on the Line of Control (LoC) after an infiltration attempt from across the border with Pakistan was foiled early on Saturday, officials said.
Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said the infiltration was foiled in north Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector when a group of armed infiltrators was detected in the wee hours today by the Army.
“The group was challenged by the alert Army personnel triggering a gunfight. During the encounter, four terrorists were killed,” Col Kalia said. He said the operation was still in progress.
This is the second infiltration bid which was foiled by Army in past three days in Kupwara district. On Thursday, the Army foiled an infiltration bid in Gogaldara Keran along the LoC. A large number of militants were pushed back when they were challenged by the Army close to the LoC at Keran.
