Bathinda: 12 April, 2018: Five state government officials are attending the 8th Asia Pacific meet at Eighth Regional 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Forum at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Forty mayors of cities around the world and mayors of more than 100 cities across India are participating in the Eighth Regional 3R Forum, which was inaugurated by Mrs Sumitra Mahajan Speaker Lok Sabha and Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on 10th April. The meet will conclude on 12th April.
Commissioner MC Ludhiana, Jaskiran Singh, Regional Dy Director Patiala, Jiwan Jot Kaur, Regional Dy Director Jalandhar Sanjeev Sharma, PMIDC managers Naresh Kumar & Gurpreet Singh along with Nawanshahr MC president Lalit Mohan Pathak are representing as state delegates.
The Forum will recognise and reward industries and civil society organisations carrying out exceptional work in the area of 3R for waste management through the 3R Awards scheduled for April 12.
Speaking on telephone with APS Brar, One of the delegates from Punjab, Jiwan Jot Kaur Deputy Director Local Govt Patiala disclosed that the Forum intend to address how 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and resource efficiency measures can make available complementary benefits in making cities and countries clean, elegant, worth living and resilient.
Jiwan Jot disclosed that “The 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Awards for Civil Society organizations (CSO) is being organized on this occasion for rewarding CSOs doing exceptional work on 3R for waste management”. Patiala region have sent two nominations Hans Raj Trust Moonak and Satbat da Bhalla trust Patiala under this category. They have been shortlisted for award claims Jiwan Jot Kaur.
She further said “The Forum also aims to generate policy-level, institutional level and technological insights towards effective implementation of 3R and resource efficiency to foster circular economic development, sustainable change in current use of natural resources and ultimately achieve a zero waste society”.
Another delegate from Punjab, Jaskiran Singh Commissioner MC Ludhiana said “I have utilised the occasion to study the functioning of Solid Waste Management Plant at Indore. The field visit has been fruitful and positive”.
Briefing further details of the 3R Forum on telephone, Jaskiran Singh informed that the 3R Forum has been designed by the Government of Japan and United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) as an occasion to engage Asia Pacific Countries to collectively deliberate on issues concerning mainstreaming 3Rs in the overall policy, planning and development processes and shaping strategies.
