Kullu, September 25: Six persons have been feared dead in rain-related incidents in the district since yesterday.
Three persons, including a woman, were reportedly washed away when a vehicle fell into the swollen Beas near Manali late Sunday night. The whereabouts of the occupants were not confirmed.
Kullu DC Yunus Khan said the report of the accident was not confirmed yet.
A girl (15) was washed away in the Beas near Bajaura on Monday. In another accident, two persons were washed away in the Parbati river as their scooty collided with a jeep and fell off the road near Manikaran.
Two persons were rescued by an IAF chopper while they were stuck in the Beas near Hurla in Bhuntar. They had reportedly gone to collect wood and were stuck on the riverbed as the water level rose. They remained stranded for the whole night.
The road link between Kullu and Manali was snapped as both right bank and left bank roads were damaged. The road near Kalath at Manali and Charudu village near Kullu was washed away. Many tourists were reportedly stranded as tourist buses had been halted at Manali since yesterday.
The Kullu administration last night alerted residents at Akhara Bazar. The DC said many persons had been evacuated from Ramshila and Akhara Bazar adjoining the Beas. Some people had also been also shifted from Patlikuhl and Raison.
An uprooted tree damaged three vehicles in the forest colony area of Kullu. All rivers and rivulets were flooded and people were advised to remain cautious. Electricity poles and wires were damaged in many areas and telecommunication services were also affected.
The district administration has issued a high alert. The Kullu DC said blankets were provided to over 160 displaced families. All educational institutions would remain closed on September 25. Daily flights from the Bhuntar airport were also cancelled for the third consecutive day due to inclement weather.
