6-yr later, Jalandhar’s blind cricketer Tejinderpal gets his Rs 2 Lakh award money

CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 31: Punjab’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has ensured Jalandhar’s blind cricketer Tejinderpal gets his Rs.2 Lakh award money released. The amount was stuck for six long years.

In a press statement issued here, Sports Minister Rana Sodhi said Tejinderpal had represented India at the 2014 Cricket World Cup played in South Africa for which he was awarded 2 lakh award, which was stuck for long. The issue was brought into the notice of the Minister who got the money released immediately and the same has been transferred into the account of the cricketer.

Tejinderpal has also represented India during the England Tour in 2015 taking part in three T20s and an equal number of ODIs as well. He has also captained Punjab.

Reiterating Captain Amarinder Singh led state government’s commitment to revive glorious sporting past, Rana Sodhi said that any state player who needs any financial help for preparing for future competitions can approach the department.

He said that the Sports Department is preparing lists of those players with potential of bringing honour for the state with right preparation and facilities. Our preparations for the Olympics are on the right track, the Minister said, expressing confidence that the players would bring laurels for state and country.
