New Delhi, May 10: Voting for sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 12. Polling will be held in 59 Lok Sabha constituencies across seven states. Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir, son of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former Haryana Chief Minister, Deepender Hooda are the prominent figures among the contestants in this phase.
Lok Sabha election 2019 is being held in 7 phases. The polling in five phases has already taken place while the remaining phases will go to polls on May 12 (6th phase) and May 19 (7th phase). The counting of votes will be held on May 23.

- Madhya Pradesh’s Guna Lok Sabha Constituency:Guna comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Shivpuri, Pichhore, Kolaras, Bamori, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Chanderi, Mungaoli. Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia of the Congress party was elected as the Member of Parliament from this constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. For the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress party has renominated Scindia as its candidate from the Guna seat, while the BJP has fielded Dr KP Yadav.
- Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha Lok Sabha Constituency:Vidisha comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Bhojpur, Sanchi, Silwani, Vidisha, Basoda, Budhni, Ichhawar, Khategaon. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj was elected from this constituency in the 2014 polls. She was elected in 2009 as well. For the 2019 polls, the INC has nominated Shailendra Patel as its candidate from here while BJP has this time fielded Ramakant Bhargav.
- Bhopal Lok Sabha Constituency:Bhopal comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Berasia, Bhopal Uttar, Narela, Bhopal Dakshin-Paschim, Bhopal Madhya, Govindpura, Huzur, Sehore. For the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has nominated Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur as its candidate from the Bhopal seat. She is pitted against Congress veteran and former state chief minister Digvijaya Singh.
- Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur Lok Sabha Constituency:Sultanpur comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Isauli, Sultanpur, Sultanpur Sadar, Lambhu, Kadipur (SC). In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Feroze Varun Gandhi had won the Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency. Bharatiya Janata Party has swapped the seats between the mother-son duo for the 2019 election. While Maneka Sanjay Gandhi will be contesting from Sultanpur which was Feroze Varun Gandhi’s seat. The Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal have announced that they will fight the election in an alliance.
- Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad Lok Sabha Constituency:Allahabad comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Meja, Karachhana, Allahabad South, Bara (SC), Koraon (SC). In the 2019 election, Bharatiya Janata Party has named Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the seat. Rajendra Pratap Singh has been nominated by Samajwadi Party to take back the seat from the Bharatiya Janata Party while Congress has named Yogesh Shukla.
- Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad Lok Sabha Constituency:Allahabad comprises of following Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Isauli, Sultanpur, Sultanpur Sadar, Lambhu, Kadipur (SC). In the 2019 election, Bharatiya Janata Party has named Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the seat. Rajendra Pratap Singh has been nominated by Samajwadi Party to take back the seat from the Bharatiya Janata Party while Congress has named Yogesh Shukla.
Richest candidates in sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections
ADR has analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 967 out of 979 candidates, who are contesting in the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections, scheduled for May 12. Of all the 967 candidates analysed, 174 are from national parties, 64 are from state parties, 422 are from registered unrecognised parties and 307 candidates are contesting independently.
Topping the list of crorepatis is Jyotiraditya M. Scindia fighting from Guna constituency of Madhya Pradesh with a Congress ticket. He possesses assets worth Rs 374 crore. Second on the list is Gautam Gambhir with assets over Rs 147 crore. The former national-level cricketer also has the highest liabilities (among Phase 6 candidates) of over Rs 34 crore and highest annual income of over Rs 12 crore for financial year 2017-18 as declared in the Income Tax Returns.
Criminal background
Out of 967 candidates analysed by ADR, 189 have declared criminal cases against themselves. This makes up 20 percent of all contenders in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
Going party-wise, 26 (48%) out of 54 candidates from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 20 (44%) out of 46 candidates from Congress, 19 (39%) out of 49 candidates from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), five (31%) out of 16 candidates from Shiv Sena and 34 (11%) out of 307 independent candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
