Moga, August 7: The police arrested two persons and seized over 70 quintals of poppy husk from their possession, SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said here on Monday.
A police team intercepted a truck, which was on its way to Jagraon from Kotkapura, near Mehna village in the district. During a search, the cops found poppy husk hidden under banana crates. Dharamjit Singh and Gurdip Singh were arrested. Their accomplices, Shinder Singh and Deba Singh of Dholewala village, managed to flee.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the poppy husk belonged to drug smuggler Buta Singh, who is on the run. AIG (Counter Intelligence) HPS Khakh said the accused had planned to smuggle the consignment from Rajasthan to Punjab.
Abohar: The police claimed to have nabbed Gursewak Singh of Roopnagar border village with 400 habit forming tablets, Sukhbir Singh of Dalmirkhera with 4 kg poppy husk and Himmat Bedi of Gobind Nagari with 5 kg of poppy husk. Separate cases under the NDPS Act were registered. In the neighbouring Sriganganagar, the police seized 350 sedative tablets from two persons.
