80th Raising Day of Mahar Regiment celebrated by veterans

Chandigarh, October 1: The 80th Raising Day of The Mahar Regiment was celebrated today at DSOI Chandigarh by veterans of Chandigarh Chapter of the Regiment.

Disclosing this, the Director Defence Services Welfare Brigadier (Retd.) Satinder Singh said that Lt. Gen. C Bansi Ponnapa, AVSM,VSM, The Colonel of the Regiment alongwith his wife graced the occasion. The Regimental Raising Day was celebrated in five nodal cities, Secunderabad ,NCR ( New Delhi ), Bengaluru ,Pune and Chandigarh.

The Colonel of the Regiment addressed all officers and veterans followed by update on Regimental matters by the Centre Commandant and message by one Senior veteran from from each location. The Live streaming was followed by interaction and Lunch.

It may be recalled that the Mahar Regiment was raised on 1 Oct 1941 at Belgaum and has served the Nation for 80 years. During this period, the Regiment has participated in the Second World War and all major wars that India was challenged with after independence.

It was also involved in several United Nations and other peace keeping ,Counter Insurgency and Anti Military Operations. During these operations the Regiment has won many Battle Honours and gallantry awards including Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra. War veterans were remembered and homage was paid to martyred soldiers.
