A sports stadium with Rs 3.96 crore to be built at Longowal: Meet Hayer

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said here on Saturday that a state-of-the-art sports stadium will come up at Longowal village of Sunam in Sangrur district. The sports department has given in principal approval for the stadium to be built at a cost of Rs 3.96 crore. A letter has been issued to the Public Works Department (B and R) for the construction of sports stadium at Longowal.

Meet Hayer said that as per the directions given by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to the Sports Department to create a conducive environment for the sportspersons in the state, the Sports Department has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art sports stadium at Longowal to provide best sports facilities to the players of Sunam constituency.

The Sports Minister said that while the sports department’s ‘Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan’ has shown the potential of the players in the state on a large scale, during the ‘Kheda Halqa Sunam Di’ organized by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora at Sunam, it was revealed that the players of this region also have immense potential. Youngsters just need platform and encouragement to showcase their talent. He said that this region has produced big players like Padma Shri Kaur Singh and Padma Shri Sunita Rani.

The minister further said that a new sports policy will be formulated soon by the state government in which special awards, jobs to the players besides preparing a roadmap for future so that Punjab can be made the leading state of the country in sports.
