AAP stages walkout from Vidhan Sabha over demands of Dalit community

Chandigarh, March 3: On Tuesday morning, the AAP MLAs protested in /outside the Vidhan Sabha over the issues and concerns surrounding the Dalit community (SC / ST) in the ongoing Budget session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Later, when AAP MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke protested against the cancellation of the ‘stop-work’ motion on the issue of dalits, AAP MLAs first stormed the well of the House, raised slogans against the government, before staging a walkout led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema.

Giving his reaction to the media later, Cheema termed the Capt government as anti-dalit, saying the Congress government in the state had failed to fulfill even a single promise made to the Dalit community.

On this occasion, Principal Budh Ram and Master Baldev Singh (Both MLAs) raised the issues of giving 5-5 residential plots to the Dalits, access to 200 units of electricity without conditions, implementing the 85th amendment of the constitution, debt waiver, implementation of the recommendations of the Mandal Commission, ensuring 25% admission to the children belonging to the Dalit families in private schools under the RTI Act, prompt  release of under-matriculation and post-matric scholarship dues et al., in and outside the House.

Others present on the occasion included Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Meet Hayer (All MLAs), party spokesman Neel Garg and State Media Head Manjit Singh Sidhu.
