AAP’s big blow to BJP in Jalandhar; Mohinder Bhagat joins the Aam Aadmi Party

Date:

Chandigarh, April 14

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gave another bug blow to the BJP ahead of Jalandhar by-poll. BJP leader and party candidate for legislative assembly elections 2022 from Jalandhar west, Mohinder Paul Bhagat joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

AAP Punjab President Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed Mohinder Bhagat to the Aam Aadmi Party. MLA Jalandhar west Sheetal Angural and AAP Punjab general secretary Harchand Singh Barsat were also present on the occasion.

Before Mohinder Bhagat, Sushil Kumar Rinku, who was Congress’s candidate during Punjab assembly elections 2022 against AAP’s Sheetal Angural, has joined the AAP and is contesting Jalandhar by-election as the party’s candidate. AAP is the only party as far as Jalandhar west is concerned because no competitor is left there from opposition parties. Local councillors and leaders, too, are leaving their parties and are extending their support to AAP MLA Sheetal Angural.

BJP’s Jalandhar West in-charge Mohinder Bhagat is the son of Bhagat Chuni Lal who was minister in the SAD-BJP government. Mohinder Bhagat has contested twice from Jalandhar west at BJP’s ticket. He was chairman of the medium industries development board Punjab from 2007 to 2011. He was also BJP’s Punjab vice president for 1998-2001 and 2017-2020.

With Mohinder Bhagat joining the Aam Aadmi Party, the party has gained more strength in Jalandhar. Two opposition parties’ candidates of Punjab assembly elections have now joined AAP. This indicates the party’s one sided win in Jalandhar by-poll.
