However, in February this year, after seven months in jail, Tarsem Singh was released on bail after his family members furnished a surety bond for him.

Once out of jail on bail, Tarsem again started consuming drugs and all efforts by his family to rein him failed.

Expecting he would be rehabilitated in jail, Tarsem’s family members again sent him to jail on June 20 by withdrawing the surety bond for his release.

Tarsem suffered acute withdrawal symptoms in the jail, following which he was admitted to the de-addiction centre in the jail. However, keeping in view his critical condition, he was shifted to the Faridkot Civil Hospital and after two days of treatment, he was against sent back to the jail.

Succumbing to his crave for drugs and acute withdrawal symptoms, Tarsem Singh allegedly hanged himself to death on Friday.

The jail authorities have sent the body to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for a postmortem examination and written to the District and Sessions Judge, Faridkot, for a magisterial inquiry into his death.
