Adequate arrangements for paddy season starts from June 10

Punjab Government has made elaborate arrangements including uninterrupted supply of power, for smooth and hassle free sowing of paddy from the season starting from today (June 10).

Divulging the details the Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Mr. Sukhdev Singh Brar said that this year, paddy will be sown over 30.20 lakh hectares of area out of which 5.35 lakh hectares area will be under Basmati cultivation whereas remaining will be under non-basmati cultivation. He said that the department has fixed a target to bring 10 lakh hectares area under direct sowing of paddy. Mr. Brar said that this sowing is already going on and the state government was supplying adequate power supply to the farmers.

The Director said that farmers need fertilizers and pesticides after sowing of crop for which adequate arrangements have been made by them. Mr. Brar appealed the farmers, labour and other stakeholders to follow the Covid protocol issued by the health department in wake of the ongoing pandemic.
