Sangrur, October 23: Not a single agency has been able to lift the whole paddy purchased in the district. Similarly, except Punsup, no other agency has released the payment of purchased paddy.
Though the pendency of payment is around 10 per cent, it exposes the lack of compliance of government directions for release of all payment of purchased paddy within 48 hours.
The official figures show that till last evening 4,17,505 tonnes of paddy had arrived in all grain markets of the district. Of which, 3,98,510 tonnes was purchased. Out of the total purchase, 38,5391 tonnes were purchased by various government agencies, while 13,119 tonnes were purchased by private traders and 18,995 tonnes is lying unsold across the district.
Of the total government purchase, Pungrain has purchased 1,30,785 tonnes, Markfed 92,223 tonnes, Punsup 53,549 tonnes, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) 31,410 tonnes and Punjab Agro 77,424 tonnes of paddy. Punjab Agro has lifted 80 per cent of the total purchase, followed by Punsup 75.4 per cent, Pungrain 73.6 per cent, PSWC 73.5 per cent and Markfed 68.7 per cent.
Arhtiyas say though lifting is not being done at required pace, but it’s still better than many other districts. “The state government should take required action to improve the lifting further,” said an arhtiya.
Only Punsup has released all 100 per cent payment of purchased paddy, followed by Punjab Agro with 95.7 per cent, PSWC 91 per cent and Pungrain and Markfed with 90 per cent.
“We have taken all required steps for timely lifting and release of payment. But if anyone is still facing any problem, he should contact us immediately,” said Manjit Singh, District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC), Sangrur.
