Amritsar, July 14: Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, on Friday appealed to the masses to join hands in the crusade against drug abuse, a day after Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had sought Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh’s intervention in tackling the menace.
He said the state government, SGPC, DSGMC, SAD and other organisations had been jointly making efforts to curb the menace, but in vain.
He added that the staff of schools, colleges and universities should counsel students against falling prey to such vices. He also directed artistes to come up with inspirational programmes to discourage the youth from taking drugs. “The government should devise a mechanism to rehabilitate addicts. I also appeal to the media and artistes to play a proactive role in spreading awareness against drug abuse. Every individual should contribute to our mission to save Punjab from drugs,” he said.
Vested interests and nefarious designs of a handful of people have pushed Punjab’s youth into the quagmire of drug addiction. The govt should take exemplary action against traffickers -Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takht Jathedar
