Phagwara, June 29: A guard, Jagwinder Singh, reportedly foiled the attempt of three inmates to escape from the Phagwara sub-jail late on Wednesday night.

Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh Rai, while confirming the incident, said the three inmates, identified as Mohit of Phagwara, Amardeep Singh of Pandori village and Naresh Kumar of Thakraki village, entered the washroom around 11.45 pm and started extracting bricks from the wall. The guard on duty raised the alarm and nabbed them, he said.
