Chandigarh, April 27: Punjab public works minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on Monday, assured that Amritsar is very much part of the Delhi-Katra Expressway whereby a spur at Kartarpur will join the Kartarpur-Amritsar section with the Expressway.
He said this section will be developed as 6-lane Access Controlled Expressway along the existing alignment only.
The cabinet minister said that the alignment approved by the Punjab Government and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) provides shortest and express connectivity to the cities of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala with the National Capital as well as with Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the alignment has been finalised after a number of meetings among representatives of union and state government, ministry of road transport and Highways and NHAI.
Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that in spite of the lockdown in Punjab, progress on the project is on as till date, the verification of revenue record in the districts of Patiala and Sangrur has been done and notifications under Section 3A of the National Highways Act shall be issued soon.
Mr. Singla said the much awaited project shall give a big economic boost to Punjab by connecting its industrial hubs and agri-markets to the rest of country.
He added that the NHAI has targeted to award the civil work during the current financial year; 2020-21 and it would be completed till 2023-24.
He reiterated that Amritsar is the integral part of Delhi-Katra expressway connecting the holy shrines of Mata Vaishno Devi and Golden Temple.
