Amritsar police to hold ‘clean singing’ event as part of anti-drug drive

Date:

Amritsar, May 1: In view of the growing number of drug addicts and gangsters in the past decade, the district police have adopted a new strategy to inspire youth against drugs and criminal activities by organising ‘clean singing’ programmes and the fist such programme will be held on May 19.

The police think with ‘provocative songs’, Punjab’s youth are being lured to taking drugs and criminal activities and become gangsters.

Commissioner of police (CP) SS Srivastava said here on Monday that Punjab’s youth have been considering Punjabi singers as their role models and are being inspired by songs eulogising drugs and gangsters. “We are organising the first ‘clean singing, no drugs, save youth, save culture’ programme on May 19 at 6:30 pm in the Guru Nanak Stadium on the MM Malviya road,” he said.

“During the programme, Punjabi sufi singer Satinder Sartaj will encourage the youth to say no to drugs and criminal activities with his songs,” he said.

Srivastva said they will continue to organise such inspirational programmes to inspire youth. He said besides such programmes, they will also organise other activities to apprise the youth of rich Punjabi culture.

The commissioner of police also launched a poster of the ‘Clean Singing’ show on the occasion.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Amrik Singh, additional deputy commissioners of police (ADCP) Jagjit Singh Walia and Lakhbir Singh were also present on the occasion.
