Australian Co. calls on Punjab CM, evinces interest in setting waste management plant

Due to strenuous efforts being made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for ensuring effective solid waste management in the state, Australian company M/s. Continuum Energy has evinced keen interest in setting up plant for converting Municipal Solid Waste into Eco Fuel.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister asked the Local Government department to explore the feasibility of converting Municipal Solid Waste to Eco-Fuel of very high calorific value through strategic tie up with an Australian company.

A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister while chairing a meeting with Australia based company here at his office in Punjab Civil Secretariat.

Taking part in deliberations, the Chief Minister batted for making strenuous efforts to ensure scientific processing of Municipal Solid Waste. He directed the department of Local Government to study the details of a project to convert Municipal Solid Waste to Eco-Fuel with an Australian company. Bhagwant Mann envisioned that this project can act as a catalyst for solving the grave problem of solid waste in urban areas of the state.

The Chief Minister also asked the officers to examine the output product of eco fuel along with the officials of the Punjab Pollution Control Board to ensure the adaptability of this technology to Indian conditions and in compliance of the regulatory norms at the earliest. He said that solid waste management is the need of the hour to make the cities of the state clean, green and pollution free. Bhagwant Mann asserted that Eco-Fuel can be used to supplement coal, heavy fuel oils, diesel, gas and other high carbon/ expensive fuel sources in power stations and kilns adding that people can be immensely benefited from it.

Earlier, Director M/s. Continuum Energy, Australia Russell Tattum gave a detailed presentation regarding the process of converting Municipal Solid Waste to Eco-Fuel of very high calorific value. The company evinced its keen interest to set up a plant in Punjab for converting fresh Municipal Solid Waste of 1000 tons per day initially. The technology used for this ambitious project complies with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
