Amritsar, November 9: Avtar Singh Makkar, SGPC’s former chief, will again head the Takht Patna Sahib Gurdwara managing committee. He regained his position following the orders of a local Patna court on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Harvinder Singh Sarna of the SAD (Delhi), who had recently replaced Makkar, had decided to challenge it in the High Court.
The historic gurdwara at Patna Sahib is the birth place of the 10th Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh. Sarna got control of the gurdwara panel during a meeting held on September 3. The meeting was declared invalid by Makkar then. Following this, a petition was also filed by Sikh activist Amarjit Singh in the local court against Sarna.
Now, three months later, the court has pronounced verdict in favour of Makkar.
“I had nullified the meeting as it never held any significance. Now, the court has endorsed it with directions that fresh elections should be conducted as the five-year term has ended,” said Makkar.
Sarna said. “The elections were held only after the lower court had permitted to hold a meeting for the same on October 31, but now on November 8, the same court has declared it invalid. We will move the High Court against the decision.”
