Back from Dubai, man sets wife, 2 kids on fire

Date:

Kapurthala, August 3: Barely hours after returning from Dubai, a Kala Sanghian-based villager set himself, his wife and two minor children on fire in the early hours on Thursday.

Kulwinder Singh (35) had returned home at 11 pm on Wednesday and the incident came to light at 4:30 am. Sources said Kulwinder Singh took the step after he learnt about the alleged illicit relations of his wife with a fellow villager. Infuriated at this, he set himself, his wife Mandeep Kaur, son Abhi (5) and daughter Sonal (8) on fire.

Kulwinder’s mother Mohinder Kaur and sister Jaswinder Kaur, who were sleeping in another room, did not get to know about his return till his death.

Mohinder Kaur got up after thick smoke started coming out of her son’s room. As she and Jaswinder pushed open the door, they found Kulwinder’s burnt body. Mandeep and her two kids were rushed to Civil Hospital in Jalandhar.

While the children died around noon, Mandeep passed away at 3 pm. Jaswinder too suffered burn injuries on her leg after she pushed open the door. The police have arrested Gurpreet Singh, a villager who reportedly had illicit relations with Mandeep.

Gurpreet’s mother Satya, Balkar Singh and Tirath have also been booked. WhatsApp messages on the mobile phones of the accused and Kulwinder have also reportedly pointed to incitement for committing suicide.

Satinder Singh, SSP, said a case had been registered under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC against the four accused.
