Backward Classes panel members emphasises steps for upliftment of status of BCs

Chandigarh, January 27: National Backward Classes Commission here on Monday held a meeting with officials of Punjab Social Welfare, Empowerment and Minorities Department at UT Guest House. The Commission emphasised on initiating more steps for overall upliftment of social, economical and educational status of backward classes.

The meeting held under the leadership of National Backward Classes Commission Chairman Sh. Bhagwan Lal Sahni had Commission Vice Chairman Lokesh Prajapati, besides Member Dr. Sudha Yadav, Sh. Kaushlidra Singh Patel including others present.

On the occasion, Principal Secretary Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Sh. R Venkat Ratnam, Director Sh. Davinder Singh, Chairman Punjab State Backward Classes Commission S. Sarwan Singh, Member Secretary S. Bhupinder Singh, ADGP Crime Smt. Gurpreet Deo and Deputy Director S. Parminder Singh were also present.

Sh. R. Venkat Ratnam apprised the visiting Commission members about several steps undertaken by state to enhance the overall social, educational and economic position of backward classes. He also informed the Commission about various schemes being run by the state government in this regard.

The National Commission asked the officials to hold special awareness seminars and camps at regular intervals to spread information about various facilities being provided to backward classes. The Commission also directed for implementation of job and admission reservation policy guidelines, issued for backward classes, in both letter and spirit.

The Commission also asked to make sure due action is immediately taken against any education institute or organization which violates this policy. The Commission said reservation of backward classes must be ensured across all universities, Government and private education institutes.

National Commission also held a meeting with various associations of state OBC Community and listened to their grievances.
