Banwarilal Purohit sworn in as 36th Governor of Punjab

CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 31: Shri Banwarilal Purohit was today sworn in as Governor of Punjab. The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ravi Shanker Jha, administered the oath of office to Shri Banwarilal Purohit at Punjab Raj Bhavan. Governor Haryana, Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh and Chief Minister Haryana Shri Manohar Lal Khattar were present on the stage.

Shri Banwarilal Purohit took the oath in English. He signed the oath form that was counter signed by the Chief Justice. Later, Shri Banwarilal Purohit signed separate charge reports, both as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory, Chandigarh.

Earlier, the Governor designate arrived at the special pandal of Punjab Raj Bhavan in a ceremonial procession. He was accompanied by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Chief Secretary of Punjab, Mrs Vini Mahajan sought the permission to start the ceremony and read out the warrants of appointment of Shri Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab.

Earlier in day, Shri Banwarilal Purohit arrived at Punjab Raj Bhavan at 12.00 Noon and was given Guard of Honour by the contingent of PAP. He was received by Shri Rana KP Singh, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Shri Brahm Mohindra and Shri Manpreet Singh Badal Cabinet Ministers of Punjab. Shri Dharam Pal, Adviser to Administrator, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh along with senior officers of Chandigarh Administration were also present.
