Poultry farm owner shot dead in Bathinda, Bambiha gang claims responsibility

Date:

Bathinda, June 18: Hours after two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead a 42-year-old poultry farm owner, Hardev Singh Gogi Jatana, in Rampura Phul in Bathinda on Sunday, a gangster, Sukhpreet Singh Buddha Kussa, linked to the gang of slain Devinder Bambiha, claimed responsibility for the murder on Facebook.

On the Facebook post, Kussa claimed that he, along with Aman Amana of Jaito, had killed Gogi Jatana. “Hardev had given a tip-off to the police of the presence of Devinder Bambiha, who was later killed in an encounter with the police. We have avenged the killing of Bambiha and this is a warning for others,”the post reads.

Bambiha was killed in an encounter with Bathinda police at Gill Kalan village near Rampura Phul on September 9, 2016.

Rampura Phul station house sub-inspector Gurmail Singh said, “On Sunday, two people, one of whom had covered his head with a piece of cloth, arrived at Hardev’s poultry farm and asked for eggs. As Hardev bent down, they shot at him, killing him on the spot. We have recovered two used pistol cartridges.”

He added a case had been registered under section 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint from the brother of Hardev, Megh Singh.

Bathinda SSP Navin Singla said, “I am aware of the murder and gangsters claiming responsibility on Facebook. We will verify who has posted this.”
