Bathinda to host state-level Dheeyan di Lohri function

Chandigarh, January 11:  The Punjab Government will organize a state-level function at Bathinda on January 13 to celebrate “Dheeyan di Lohri”.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur will attend this function as the chief guest.

Divulging details in this regard, Madhvi Kataria, Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development department said that “Dheeyan di Lohri” is being celebrated in all the districts of Punjab from January 13 to January 20 and the state level function is being held at Bathinda.

She said that under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, “Dheeyan di Lohri” is celebrated at the state and district level to spread awareness about the gender ratio of girls in the state.

She further said the day will be celebrated in the district and blocks and will be attended by elected representatives of the Vidhan Sabha, Deputy Commissioners, SDMs, officials of other departments, Panchayats, school children etc.

On this occasion, various activities will be conducted by the department, during which emphasis will be placed on improving the sex ratio of girls and street plays will be conducted. She said the parents of new-born girls will be felicitated with certificates and gifts of Markfed products will be given.

Apart from this, awareness will be spread about the schemes being run by the department through cultural activities, essay, slogan writing competitions and speeches.
