Bhagwant Mann government has kept ₹990 crore for higher education: Harjot Bains

In the budget presented by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, ₹990 rore has been earmarked to establish Government Universities in the state of Punjab.

Giving information in this regard, Punjab Higher Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been making concerted efforts to strengthen the government education system in the state.

He said that the previous governments had never paid attention to the Government Universities of the state due to which the financial condition of these educational institutions had deteriorated. He said that after the cabinet led by Bhagwant Mann took over the reins of the state of Punjab, ₹990 crores have been released in the second consecutive budget to revive these institutions.

S. Bains said that a meagre ₹24.33 crore was released to Punjab University during the financial year 2013-14, while just ₹33 crore was given during the financial year 2017-18 and ₹42.70 crore was released for the financial year 2022-23.

Similarly, paltry ₹55.95 crore was released to Punjabi University during the financial year 2013-14, while only ₹88.09 crore was given during the financial year 2017-18, and ₹200 crore was released for the financial year 2022-23.

Similarly, only ₹45.30 crore was released to Guru Nanak Dev University during the financial year 2013-14, while ₹49.55 crore was given during the financial year 2017-18 and ₹75 crore was released for the financial year 2022-23.
