Bharti Ent to take up more schools in Punjab under CSR prog

Chandigarh, Aug 11: Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman Rakesh Bharti Mittalhas offered to take up more schools in Punjab to further boost quality education, while seeking an opportunity to set up a food processing plant at Ladhowal, Ludhiana, an official spokesperson said today.

The proposal from Mittal came at a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh here last evening, he said.

 

Mittal also sought permission for setting up a food processing plant at Ladhowal for its Del Monte brand at an initial investment of Rs 30 crore, with another Rs 50 crore to be invested on completion.

 

Seeking Punjab government’s continued support to ensure the success of its CSRinitiative – Satya Bharti School Programme – Mittal said he hoped to make an even bigger impact on the lives of students by expanding its ambit.

 

He expressed gratitude to the Punjab Education Development Board for supporting the initiative, which has helped rural students achieve academic excellence along with skill development, the spokesperson said.

 

Mittal also proposed setting up a university with a social cause to provide quality higher education to the deserving underprivileged students of Punjab.

 

As part of CSR programme, Bharti Enterprises’ philanthropic arm Bharti Foundation is also engaged in building toilets under its ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’, providing access to toilets to thousands of individuals, as well as in government schools, in Ludhiana and Amritsar since 2014.

 

Mittal further apprised the chief minister of various other programmes undertaken in the state by Bharti Enterprises, which owns and operates Airtel among other companies.

These include Satya Bharti Quality Support Programme aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools.
