Ropar, February 27: A government school teacher allegedly tried to molest a 14-year-old student here last week. Even a week after the incident, the school authorities failed to either lodge a police complaint or take disciplinary action against the accused.
The Principal claimed that the victim did not want to flare up the issue. “In any case, the accused teacher would be transferred in a few months from here as the Punjab Government has decided to shift male teachers from girls’ schools,” said Principal Manjit Kaur.
On February 21, a Hindi teacher at Government Senior Secondary School in Ropar allegedly took the 14-year-old victim to the mid-day meal room and caught hold of her.
The victim, however, resisted and fled from the spot. She informed about the incident to another teacher and subsequently the incident was brought to the notice of the Principal.
On why action was not taken against the accused, the Principal said the accused had “apologised” for the incident and the victim also didn’t want to bring the incident to her parents’ knowledge, so she decided not to proceed further.
