London, May 03, 2018: Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP for Slough (UK) confirmed today that the recently introduced Air India flight from Birmingham to Amritsar will shortly be operating 5 days a week. It started on two days a week, then was announced last month that it would be three days a week, and now will become 5 days a week. Dhesi said “I thank the UK and Punjabi travellers for the enthusiasm with which they have made the flights successful. There is considerable demand for these flights – a fact that I had stated during meetings with Ministers in Delhi in August 2017.”
Dhesi had called Indian Union Minister Vijay Sampla MP in Delhi to appraise him of the historic meeting last week in the British Parliament about the demand for greater flight connectivity between the UK and Amritsar. He congratulated Minister Sampla on efforts for the introduction of domestic flights between Adampur (Punjab) and Delhi, and requested that, as per previous conversations between them, more flights were needed between Amritsar and Birmingham/London, as there was a great demand from the British Punjabi diaspora.
Sampla responded that while a final decision for London-Amritsar has not yet been taken by the Indian Cabinet and Air India, he was pleased to confirm that Cabinet Ministers had given the green light to the Amritsar-Birmingham route to become five days a week.
Dhesi said “I thank Minister Vijay Sampla and the Cabinet for their cooperation, and decision to make the Amritsar-Birmingham Air India route five days a week. I hope that very shortly they will give the good news of the introduction of London to Amritsar route.”
