Blast near Israel Embassy: Delhi Police detain four youths from Kargil

Date:

New Delhi, June 24

The Delhi Police on Thursday said its personnel have detained four youth from Kargil as suspects in connection with the Israeli Embassy blast that took place in January.

Sources in the Delhi Police confirmed that the four persons were being questioned by Delhi Police Special Cell officials. “They are in the Special Cell custody now,” a police official said.

Since the case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), sources in the anti-terror federal probe agency said, they will soon take the custody of the four detained persons.

Delhi Police officials said their exact role in the blast is being ascertained and once that is established they could be formally arrested.

On June 15, the NIA had released CCTV footage of two suspects. The NIA also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for information about the two suspects.

A low-intensity explosion took place near the Israeli Embassy in the high security area of the National Capital on January 29, but no injuries were reported. The Delhi Police had said the blast took place near the pavement in the high-security zone and that the windscreens of three cars nearby were damaged.
