Rajpura, December 18: A major blast that occurred in a truck loaded with firecrackers has left one person dead while several others are feared to have been injured in the area near Mirch Mandi of this sub divisional town of the district.
The blast was reported from Sorgir Basti, an area infamous for illegal firecrackers.
Soon after the blast was reported, senior officials of the police as well as civil administration rushed to the spot to initiate rescue operations. Sources said that while one death has been confirmed, there were apprehensions that there might be more casualties due to the massive blast, the impact of which was felt up to 500 meters from the blast site.
One of the senior officials of the police department said that they have just reached the spot and were trying to ascertain as to what exactly caused the explosion. He said that the extent of the damage was also yet to be ascertained however, one body was recovered from the blast site.
