Chandigarh, April 5:
In a bid to provide potable water supply to all rural households in the state, Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa, on Tuesday, directed the department officials to ensure the timely cleaning of water tanks of all water supply schemes to avert the threat of water contamination.
Chairing a maiden meeting of Water Supply and Sanitation department here at MGSIPA, Sector-26, the Cabinet Minister said that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government was fully committed to provide potable tapped water supply to all households and he will not leave any stone unturned to ensure clean drinking water supply to every household. He also asked officials to ensure the quality of all ongoing projects of water supply & sanitation, besides directing them to work in a tandem with local MLAs while preparing and executing the projects of the department.
While reviewing the preparedness of department to meet higher demand of drinking water ahead of summer season, the minister directed the officials to arrange spare pumping machinery to deal with the shortage of potable water supply in the sunny days. He said that it should be ensured seriously that there will be no shortage in the water supply in the rural areas and the pressure of the water supply should also be thoroughly maintained. The leakage and other complaints regarding water supply should also be resolved at the earliest, he added.
The cabinet minister also directed the department officials to sensitise the rural masses for cleanliness and conservation of drinking water. He added that the rural people should be made aware of the scarcity of water and serious initiatives should also be taken in this direction to save the precious natural resource.
While welcoming the Minister, Principal Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation Ms. Jaspreet Talwar apprised the minister about the key activities, initiatives & ongoing projects of the department in the state. She also assured the Water Supply and Sanitation Minister that all the projects will be executed on time in a transparent manner while maintaining quality. Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers, Senior Adviser (Water Quality) and other officials were also present in the meeting.
