Date:

The second wave of COVID-19 has hit one segment of City of Brampton employees particularly hard.

As of Jan. 4, the number of Brampton Transit drivers confirmed positive for the virus in December hit 12. That was a 50 per cent increase compared to the previous month, which saw eight confirmed cases among operators.

All but two of the 14 confirmed COVID-19 cases among city staff last month were transit operators, with the other two being a transit facility employee and a bylaw services worker.

To date, since the pandemic hit the city in March, there have been a total of 38 Brampton Transit operators infected with the potentially deadly virus. In total, transit operators have accounted for 65.5 per cent of the 58 confirmed front-facing city staff cases listed on the city’s website.
