Murder case: Scribes call off stir after SSP steps in

Date:

Ferozepur, June 28: Mediapersons staged a dharna and blocked traffic on the railway overbridge connecting the city and cantonment area to protest police “inaction” in the alleged murder case of PSPCL lineman Girdhari Lal Khurana.

Khurana was the elder brother of a reporter with a news channel. The dharna was lifted in the afternoon after Ferozepur SSP Pritam Singh assured them to nab the accused within a week.

Mandeep Kumar, President, Press Club, said they had approached the police many times during the past two months to nab the culprits, but the accused were roaming free due to political patronage, he alleged.

Gurdarshan Singh, Chairman, Press Club, said they would meet the police officials on Monday and in case the culprits were not arrested, they would resume the protest. They were protesting for the past two days. They relented after intervention of the SSP pn Wednesday.

The SSP said the police was trying to nab the accused. He promised that justice would be done to the family members of the deceased.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to solve the matter. There is no pressure on the police from any quarter in this case,” he added.
