Chandigarh, August 28
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has termed the decisions of the Centre and the Punjab government to sell government properties into private hands as extremely fatal and crossing all limits of mafia rule. Vehemently opposing the sale of government properties, the AAP stated that if the Congress did not back down from such fatal decisions, the people would wreck the ruling Congressmen. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, AAP senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema said that such wrongdoings of the ruling class would be the end of the Congress from Punjab forever. He also sought clarification from Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on such fatal decisions being taken by his government.
Cheema said just as the Modi government at the Centre was on the verge of selling the country’s major government assets and institutions to a few favored corporate houses, in the same way the Captain Amarinder Singh government of Punjab has gone astray in plundering the government assets (properties) of Punjab in the hands of favored private individuals.
Cheema said the process of identifying government rest houses of PWD, Guru Nanak Auditorium of Amritsar under Local Government Department, Golbagh Sports Complex and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Auditorium, Multipurpose Stadium under Sports Department of Mohali, Sri Dashmesh Martial Arts and Sports Academy along with government assets worth crores of rupees in Moga, Ludhian and Ferozepur has been expedited by the Captain Amarinder Singh government in full swing to further hand them over to the private sector at throwaway prices. He asked why the Captain government was not showing such speed in resolving the issues of the people of Punjab as fast as it was holding meetings to hand over these properties to private hands.
The AAP leader said the nefarious mafia of the ruling class, officials and rich people was behind such fatal decisions of the government. “This mafia was also active during the previous Badal-BJP government, under which dozens of properties of the cultural department were looted at rock bottom prices,” he added. Harpal Singh Cheema said if the Captain government did not back down from such fatal decisions, then with the formation of the AAP government in 2022, all government properties would be taken back from the possession of mafia and strict action would be taken against the responsible officials and politicians.
