Chandigarh, March 11: Reacting to a recent Supreme Court judgement ordering Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to release dues of Rs 1,070 crore with Rs 680 crore interest to two independent power producers (IPPs), the costs of coal washing and transportation charges; the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that the conventional parties in power in Punjab from time to time had bankrupted the PSPCL.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters, senior leader and MLA Aman Arora said that the Congress, SAD-BJP had put a well-earned institution on the brink of bankruptcy today by putting its own interests first.
He said it was as a result of wrong policies of the governments that the corporation would now have to pay additional interest of Rs 680 crore on Rs 1,070 crore dues to two power producers.
Arora said that the PSPCL collects electricity bills from the people but does not pay them to the companies.
He said that millions of rupees were due to the private companies, offices and houses of the political leaders of these conventional parties and no government had taken any step to collect the bills; but instead for one reason or another, continued to waive their bills and increase the debt burden on PSPCL.
“Despite having power generation in Punjab, there is the most expensive power supply in the state as compared to other states, but the debt burden was increasing due to non-payment by the PSPCL,” said Arora.
He said that now the apex court has issued orders to release half of the due of Rs 1,070 crore including interest which amounts to Rs 680 crore by March 31, 2021.
Arora said that now it was time to prepare for imposing more burden on the people to get rid of the debt incurred due to the poor policies of the Congress, SAD-BJP.
He appealed to the people that whenever the Congress, BJP and SAD come to seek votes, they should be held accountable as to where the money taken in the form of bills, goes in whose pocket.
