Sangrur, March 7: The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), a representative body of 192 farm organisations, today organised a “Kisan Mukti” conference at Bhawanigarh town of the district.
The alleged failure of both Central and state governments in fulfilling farmers’ demands came under sharp criticism of all leaders. Two more conferences will be organised in Moga and Jalandhar on March 7 and March 8, respectively.
During the AIKSCC conference, leaders focused on two crucial demands of farmers, including implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission report and complete debt waiver for all farmers.
“All parties use farmers before elections, but forget them after the formation of government. Time has come for farmers to take command of politics rather than becoming the victims of politicians as none is serious about their plight,” said Yogendra Yadav from the Swaraj Abhiyan and member of the AIKSCC.
He alleged that farmer suicides were increasing. The AIKSCC has been running a special campaign to spread awareness among farmers across the country for the past eight months.
Today’s conference was part of that campaign. From Punjab, the BKU (Dakaunda), Punjab Kisan Union, Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Jai Kisan Andolan, All India Kisan Sabha (PB) Sekhon , All India Kisan Sabha (Bhupinder Samber), Azad Kisan Sangharsh Commitee and Lok Kisan Morcha are part of the AIKSCC and running the campaign in the state.
“There is a need to launch more campaigns to spread awareness among farmers as politicians never fulfil promises made to us,” said Dr Darshan Pal of the BKU (D) and member of the AIKSCC.
