Centre allows paddy purchase from October 3 in Punjab

Date:

Chandigarh, October 2:

Acceding to the request of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to start paddy procurement at the earliest, the Government of India has allowed the State to undertake paddy procurement from today(October 3).

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for his immediate personal intervention to advise the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in this regard, the Chief Minister said this decision would be now instrumental in ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement of paddy to the satisfaction of the farmers.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister met Mr. Modi yesterday, who had assured him of early resolution of this issue.

Notably, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, GoI had taken a decision to postpone the paddy procurement from the October 1, the scheduled date to October 11 at the eleventh hour thus creating unnecessary resentment and confusion amongst the farmers besides putting the state in quandary.
