Bundala (Jalandhar), December 24: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday announced a nursing college to be constructed at Bundala, the ancestral village of great communist leader Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
After paying floral tributes to Communist stalwart Harkishan Singh Surjeet and his wife Pritam Kaur in the village , Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that village panchayat had been asked to provide a chunk of five acre land so that the necessary formalities for setting up the nursing college could be completed within next ten days.
The Chief Minister also dedicated 25-KM long road stretch leading to Jandiala from Bara Pind as Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet Marg, which would be re-carpeted at a cost of Rs 6 crore.
Earlier, CM Channi also named the government senior secondary smart school, Bundala after iconic political personality Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet. Though, these projects and announcements are not big things against the contribution and role played by Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet in safeguarding and strengthening the democratic setup of the country, CM Channi said that Punjab Government would leave no stone unturned for the holistic development of the region.
He said that the state government had already incurred Rs 1.75 crore on various development works and funds for another slew of projects would also be released accordingly.
Speaking about the unprecedented contribution of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet, CM Channi said that the former had always stood at forefront against the tyranny unleashed by divisive and facist forces in larger Intrest of the nation.
He also recalled that Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet had played a vital role in making UPA government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh besides keeping the CPI and CPI (M) intact.
Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet had also played a pivotal role in freedom struggle, said CM Channi adding that Punjab is always proud of this son of soil who had been an MLA and Member Rajya Sabha.
He also mentioned that Comrade Surjeet spent his entire political career for the welfare of the downtrodden and deprived section of the society, which would be ever remembered by one and all.
Meanwhile, State Secretary CPI Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon, State Committee Members Comrade Gurchetan Singh and others presented a shawl to CM Channi.
Prominent among those present on the occasion Education Minister Pargat Singh, Member Lok Sabha Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Vikramjeet Singh Chaudhary, District Congress Rural President Darshan Singh Tahli, Comrade leaders Sukhpreet Johal, Bhoop Chand Channo, Balbir Singh Jadla, Parshotam Singh Bilga and others.
