Date:

Chandigarh, September 20: Charanjit Singh Channi, Chamkaur Sahib MLA, who was elected Congress Legislature Party leader, took oath as Punjab CM here on Monday. Channi is Punjab’s first Scheduled Caste CM.

AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi attended the ceremony.

Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni took oath as deputy CMs. Both deputy CMs are from Majha.

PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu reportedly played a crucial role in replacing Hindu leader Brahm Mohindra with another Hindu leader OP Soni as one of the deputy CMs. Till Sunday evening, Mohindra was in the reckoning for the post of deputy CM. Both Mohindra and Soni had been siding with Capt Amarinder Singh.
