Chief Khalsa Diwan ex-chief gets pre-arrest bail

Date:

Amritsar, January 12: A local court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former president of Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) Charanjit Singh Chadha with directions to join investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) within 10 days.
Chadha was booked on the basis of a police complaint of molestation submitted by a woman principal of a school run by CKD after an intimate video surfaced recently. He had sought anticipatory bail.

Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyer Anandeshwar Gautam, who represented Chadha in court, said all FIRs have been clubbed together. These would be scrutinised by the SIT constituted under IG (crime) LK Yadav.
“As per directions of the court, Charanjit Chadha will join the investigation within the stipulated period. The record pertaining to the case has been sent to SIT. We submitted before the court that the Chadha family was being blackmailed. An FIR was registered with the Jalandhar police on the basis of call tapping of the extortionists.

“Later, the video was released on social media which led to Inderpreet Singh Chadha committing suicide. An FIR was registered against 13 persons by Inderpreet’s son for abetment to suicide,” he said.

The SIT has already summoned 13 persons to appear as part of the probe in Chandigarh and the questioning process is on. A local leader, Mandeep Singh Manna, whose bail petition was dismissed and withdrawn by the court, clarified his stance before the SIT on Thursday.
