Samana, March 12: Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who today addressed a ‘poll khol” rally in Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s home district, claimed that the huge turnout was a proof of the “failures” of the Congress government.
The rally was organised by senior party leader Surjit Singh Rakhra at Samana grain market.
Sukhbir alleged that Amarinder had not only betrayed the people of Punjab, but also his constituents of Patiala by failing to even visit them once in the last one year.
Besides failing to fulfil its promises such as providing jobs to youngsters, waving farm debt, setting up industries and increasing social benefits, the Congress had even discontinued the welfare schemes ran by the SAD-BJP during its 10-year rule, he claimed.
He said the Congress had stopped disbursal of old-age pension and Shagun scheme money, besides closing down 800 primary schools as well as sewa kendras. “It has stopped the CM Teerath Yatra scheme, medical insurance for farmers and even scholarships for SC students. I fail to understand why they still say that their coffers are empty,” he said.
Sukhbir claimed that illegal mining had been going on for the past one year, while the CM discovered it now. He said the CM should ensure justice for the mining officer who was beaten up in a Patiala police station for stopping Ghanaur MLA for carrying out illegal mining. He cautioned the police against registering false cases against the Akali workers.
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia alleged that Amarinder’s ministers were working for their personal gains.
