Calgary, February 22: It feels likes December in the month of February and it is for the first time in 100 years that it has been this cold.
February 22 reports a normal high of 1 degree Celsius and a low of -11, as against the -31 on Wednesday. Last year on this day, the temperature hovered over a high of -18 and low of -26 degree Celsius.
That said, the lowest ever temperature on February 22 was in the year 1899 at a freezing -37 degree Celsius.
As of 6 pm Wednesday, February 23 has a high of -24 and a low of -32 in forecast.
There are extreme cold warnings in place, with wind chill values touching near minus 40 tonight.
The wind chill may moderate during the day but extreme cold will continue through the week.
Things are looking to peak up for a window on Saturday and Sunday, as temperatures bounce back and normalize; no more wild swings for the fence above or below zero. Saturday will likely touch the positives, with Sunday afternoon bringing in a new system and a resultant wave of snow showers.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
The warning has been issued: Watch for cold-related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in any of the exposed body parts.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
