Ludhiana, February 11: A 21-year-old college girl was allegedly gangraped near Issewal village, 9 km from Ludhiana, on the intervening night of February 9 and February 10. She approached the police on Sunday evening following which a case was filed and 10 ‘unidentified’ persons were booked.
The girl and her male friend were going towards Issewal village in a Hyundai car when they were stopped by three youths riding a bike. Two of them forced their way inside the vehicle, smashing the windscreen with a brick. They called some more persons and took the girl to a vacant plot nearby, confining her friend in the car whose cellphone one of them used to call up his friend, Jaspreet, for a ransom of Rs 1 lakh. However, they set the two free at 2 am and fled.
Doctors at the Sudhar Civil Hospital medically examined the girl on Monday. Top officials, including DIG Ranbir Singh Khattra and SSP-Jagraon Varinder Singh Brar inspected the crime site while a team of forensic experts collected evidence.
SSP Brar said a case had been filed with the Dakha police under Sections 376-D, 384 and 342 of the IPC. “Teams have been formed to trace the suspects and their sketches made,” he said, adding that ASI Vidya Rattan, posted in Dakha, had been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
It is learnt that Jaspreet, on receiving the ransom call, alerted the Dakha police, which did nothing.
